The learning curve is pretty steep. Just try to get through the Prophecy campaign until you get to Lion's Arch, remember to use henchies and always bring the monk henchman. At Lion's Arch (LA) there's a quest giver that lets you travel to the NightFall (NF) campaign if you bought it (you can go back and forth between campaigns instantly anywhere after you finish the quest). Do that, and progress in the NF campaign until you get heroes, which are like henchmen except you have a lot more control over them (their weapons, runes, skills, you can see their energy bar, you can manually activate their skills, etc).
Things should get a lot easier when you get heroes. Remember to use the PvX wiki when you need help with builds
